Ethiopia stands apart: never colonized, with its own calendar and Ge'ez script, Christianity dating to the 4th century, and landscapes of mythic scale. This itinerary encompasses Addis Ababa's markets, the rock-hewn churches of Lalibela carved by 12th-century monks, and the raw surreality of the Danakil Depression—one of Earth's most otherworldly places.
