Day by day

Day 1: Arrive Almería & port exploration

Fly to Almería; metro or taxi to city center; check into budget hotel near Puerta de Purchena.

Walk the old town's narrow streets; visit the 16th-century Alcazaba fortress (25 min walk).

Dinner of espetos (grilled sardine skewers) at harbor-front chiringuito; watch fishing boats unload.

Day 2: Cabo de Gata & volcanic beaches

Rent car; drive 30 minutes southeast to Parque Natural Cabo de Gata-Níjar entrance.

Hike to Playa de Mónada (3km, 2 hours) through desert; swim at empty black-sand beach.

Return to Almería; dinner at Casa Puga (local wine bar with montaditos).

Day 3: San José & eastern coves

Drive 45 minutes to San José fishing village; walk around its small working harbor.

Kayak from San José to nearby Cove of Agua Amarga (sea caves and shallow reefs).

Dinner at a San José beachside bar; grilled fish and gazpacho.

Day 4: Níjar & white villages

Drive inland 40 minutes to Níjar; browse pottery workshops selling traditional cazuelas and jugs.

Visit the salt ponds at Punta Entinas; observe flamingos and wading birds (bring binoculars).

Return to Almería; dinner at Emporium (casual tapas bar near the cathedral).

Day 5: Playa El Pozo & snorkeling

Drive to Playa El Pozo (30 min); snorkel at Punta Jarda reef just offshore.

Lunch at chiringuito; relax at quiet, long sandy beach with few tourists.

Return to Almería; sunset walk along the Paseo Marítimo promenade.

Day 6: Desert & culture

Drive inland to the white village of Rodalquilar (1 hour); hike through its abandoned gold-mine landscape.

Visit traditional hamam (Turkish bath) or rest; lunch of ajoblanco (almond soup) in village café.

Return to Almería; final dinner at a family comedor (local lunch spot, open evenings too).

Day 7: Last morning & depart
