Betio, Kiribati

5 Days in Kiritimati (Christmas Island), Kiribati

Betio, Kiribati · 5 days, 4 nights · budget · from about $1400 per person · best in February, March, April

Kiritimati is one of Earth's most remote inhabited atolls, a speck of coral in the central Pacific where tourism is minimal and nature reigns. Vast lagoons, red-footed boobies, and endemic birds draw birders and castaways alike. This is travel for the intrepid: flights are infrequent, infrastructure is basic, but the solitude and authenticity are unmatched.
