Durban, South Africa · 7 days, 6 nights · mid-range · from about $2400 per person · best in May, June

Comrades is not a marathon—it's a 56-km (87.5 km alternate-year) institutional legend running up and down the hills between Durban and Pietermaritzburg. This trip combines race logistics with cultural immersion, pre-race altitude acclimatization, and post-race celebration in a region rich with history and natural beauty.
