Drive northeast 90 minutes to Tolaga Bay; visit Cook's Cove and longest pier in Southern Hemisphere.
Continue 1 hour to East Cape; hike to the lighthouse (20 mins each way).
Return to Tolaga Bay or camp near East Cape; watch sunset from cliffs.
Swim or walk Tokerau Beach (pristine and empty); see native pohutukawa trees.
Drive to Waipiro Bay (45 mins south); visit the marae and walk past historic Waipiro Bleachery.
Camp or lodge at Waipiro; dinner with local Māori hosts if available.
Drive 1 hour inland to Mahia Peninsula; hike the Mahia Ridge Trail (90 mins, 360° views).
Explore Mahia Beach and visit small historic villages; visit the lighthouse reserve.
Return to Gisborne (1 hour); dinner at a local café.
Visit Te Pokapoke Reserve for native bush walks and local art installations.
Browse local galleries, craft breweries, and organic markets on Gladstone Rd.
