Day by day

Day 1: Arrival & Halls Gap Orientation

Drive to Halls Gap (from Melbourne, 2.5 hours); set up at a caravan park with powered sites.

Visit the Brambuk Cultural Centre to see Indigenous exhibits and book a guide walk.

Light walk to Lake Bellfield; picnic dinner and sunset over the ridge.

Day 2: Pinnacle & Mount William Loop

Hike Pinnacle Trail (2.5 hours, 5km); steep final pitch rewards with 360° views.

Descend via Mount William for wildflower photography (spring) or mountain views (autumn).

Return to camp; cook dinner on camp stove while listening to kookaburras.

Day 3: Silverband Falls & Canyon Trek

Drive to Silverband Falls trailhead; hike down into cool canyon (1.5 hours, steep).

Swim or wade in pools; look for platypuses in shallows (early morning best, but visible).

Night walk from camp to spot possums and glowworms if season aligns.

Day 4: Indigenous Culture & Art Sites

Guided walk to Burrinja rock paintings with an Indigenous ranger (book ahead).

Self-guided visit to Baroka art gallery in the park; short hike to viewpoint.

Evening campfire; ranger talk about bush tucker and survival techniques.

Day 5: Wonderland Loop & Backcountry Camping

Drive to Wonderland carpark; hike the Loop Trail (7km, 3 hours) through ferny gullies.

Set up backcountry camp at a remote site within the park (permits required).

Bush dinner under stars; listen for owls and possums in the trees.

Day 6: Wildlife Spotting & Departure

Early start: hike to a ridge vantage point to spot echidnas and mountain brush-tail possums.

Break camp; visit a wildflower nursery in Halls Gap (if season) or souvenir shops.

Drive back to Melbourne or nearby towns.
