Lalibela, Ethiopia

5 Days in Lalibela, Ethiopia

Lalibela, Ethiopia · 5 days, 4 nights · budget · from about $1200 per person · best in October, November, December

Lalibela is a pilgrimage site unlike anywhere else on Earth: eleven churches carved *down* into living rock, not up. Ethiopian Orthodox monks still chant in these chambers. You'll hike mountain trails connecting buried sanctuaries, sleep in guesthouses run by local families, and eat injera by candlelight with priests.
