A compact 4-day loop exploring Portugal's last true wilderness—National Park gorges, mountain passes and empty Atlantic beaches. Base in Ponte de Lima and loop north into the Gerês, then west to the coast and back through pine forests.
Arrive in Ponte de Lima and check into a pousada or guesthouse by the river.
Walk the medieval bridge and explore the arcaded main square and side streets.
Dinner of grilled trout or caldo verde at a riverside restaurant.
Drive north on EN101 into Peneda-Gerês (45 km); stop at Miradouro viewpoints.
Hike Cascata do Arado from Caldas do Gerês (1.5 hours to waterfall and back).
Return to Ponte de Lima. Dinner and rest.
Drive northwest to Argivai beach (1 hour); swim and explore rock formations.
Continue south to Mindelo beach; lunch at a beach shack selling fresh fish.
Return to Ponte de Lima. Final dinner near the medieval bridge.
Coffee and pasteis de nata at a local café; final walk of Ponte de Lima.
Drive to Porto airport (1.5 hours) or continue south along the coast.
