5 Days in the Douro Valley Wine Roads
A slow drive through UNESCO-listed wine country where 2000-year-old terraces cling to river cliffs. Base yourself in Régua and explore by car, visiting working wineries, riverside villages and viewpoints that define Portuguese viticulture.
What to expect

Day by day
Arrive in Peso da Régua; settle into a riverside hotel or quintet guesthouse.
Walk the terraces above Régua and visit the small wine museum.
Dinner of grilled fish and local red wine on the Douro promenade.
Drive the EN322 east to Pinhão (55 km); stop at Miradouro de São Leonardo for panoramas.
Lunch in Pinhão's café square; visit Quinta do Infantado for port tasting and terrace walk.
Return west to Régua. Sunset from Miradouro de Casal de Loivos, then dinner in Régua.
Book a morning visit at Quinta da Avessada or Quinta do Vesúvio (pre-arrange).
Taste ports and eat lunch in the quinta's dining room with terrace views.
Drive to Amarante (1 hour west) for a change of scenery; dinner near the old stone bridge.
Wander Amarante's narrow streets and visit the convent church of São Gonçalo.
Drive north to São Pedro de Rates; explore the Romanesque church and lunch in the village.
Return to Régua. Swim in the Douro near Muge beach if weather permits; dinner in town.
Final coffee and pasteis de nata at a local café; one last river view.
Drive to Porto (2.5 hours) for onward flights or trains.
