What to expect

Day by day

Day 1: Springdale Arrival & Watchman Trail

Arrive in Springdale; settle into lodging or Watchman Campground (inside park).

Warm-up hike: Watchman Trail (3.3 mi, 1,400 ft gain) to overlook cliffs and river canyons.

Dinner in Springdale's many restaurants; early night to adjust to elevation (4,000 ft).

Day 2: Angels Landing Summit

Start Angels Landing Trail at 7 am (5.4 mi round trip, 1,500 ft gain, 3-4 hours).

Navigate chains bolted into the final ridge; avoid crowds by starting early; summit before 11 am.

Rest and stretch; dinner at Mariposa or 1-Bit Coffee Shop in Springdale.

Day 3: The Narrows: Bottom-Up Wade

Rent neoprene socks and canyoneering shoes in Springdale; start early to get good water temps.

Wade upstream from Riverside Walk (2 mi) for 1-2 hours; water is 50°F year-round—go in spring or fall.

Return to Springdale; hot shower and protein-heavy dinner to recover energy.

Day 4: Observation Point Backcountry

Start at 6:30 am; hike East Rim Trail via Observation Point (8.6 mi round trip, 2,000 ft gain).

Ascend through Echo Canyon and ponderosa pine; views rival Angels Landing with solitude.

Return to town; pack a picnic dinner and eat it on your room balcony overlooking the Virgin River.

Day 5: Orderville Canyon Slot Hike

Drive 30 min to Orderville Canyon trailhead in Mt. Carmel; hike 5 mi round trip with narrows and creek wading.

Explore the slot canyon; pristine sandstone walls, few tourists, spring water flowing year-round.

Drive back to Springdale; visit the Zion Human History Museum; reflective dinner.

Day 6: Emerald Pools & Departure

Easy morning hike: Lower Emerald Pool (1.2 mi) for turquoise water and cottonwood shade.

Browse Springdale galleries and outdoor shops; pack up; final lunch.

Depart for home or stay another night if the red cliffs have claimed your soul.
