Day by day

Day 1: Arrive & explore Te Anau

Arrive in Te Anau (gateway to Fiordland); settle into lakeside accommodation.

Walk the Te Anau lakefront trail and visit the Fiordland National Park visitor centre.

Dinner overlooking Te Anau Downs; prepare for the Milford Road drive tomorrow.

Day 2: Milford Road & Sound cruise

Early drive to Milford (120 km, 2 hours); stop at Eglinton Valley viewpoint for mountain views.

2-hour cruise into Milford Sound; see Bowen, Stirling Falls, and fur seals on rocks.

Return drive to Te Anau (2 hours); dinner and rest.

Day 3: Routeburn & Hidden Lakes

Drive 1 hour to Routeburn Track start; hike the lower section to Hidden Lakes (6 km, 2 hours).

Return to car; drive to Chasm Walk near Homer Tunnel (30 mins).

Short walk through Chasm Walk (45 mins) to sculptured river pools; return to Te Anau.

Day 4: Key Summit day hike & depart

Drive to Key Summit Trailhead (30 mins from Te Anau); 3–4 hour hike above the valleys.

Descend and drive back to Te Anau; return rental car or continue onward.

Depart Te Anau or extend stay with a lakeside walk at sunset.
