What to expect

Day by day

Day 1: Arrival in Car-Free Zermatt

Drive to Täsch; park and take the 12-minute train into Zermatt (no cars allowed).

Settle into a wooden chalet on Dorfstrasse; stroll the village and climb to the Matterhorn Museum.

Dinner at Zum See: lake trout, local Fendant wine, Matterhorn views from the terrace.

Day 2: Riffelsee & Sunset Reflection

Take the Gornergrat train halfway to Riffelberg; hike 1 hour down to Riffelsee (mirror lake).

Picnic by the lake; rest on the rocky shore.

Return via train; aperitivo at Riffelberg café (still in sunshine). Dinner at Ristorante Rhodania (lamb, peppercorn sauce).

Day 3: Gornergrat Glacier & Ridge Walk

Early train to Gornergrat (3,089 m); see the Gorner Glacier spreading below like frozen rivers.

Hike the Hörnli ridge trail (2 hours, moderate) past marmots and wildflowers; descent via Rotenboden.

Fondue night: melted Valais Raclette at a small stubestuBe near the village square.

Day 4: Sunnegga Wildflower & Departure

Cable car to Sunnegga; walk the flat meadow trail (1.5 hours) carpeted in Alpine flowers.

Leisurely descent; final shopping for local Sammet chocolate at Bayard Chocolat.

Train back to Täsch and drive home.
